It was Sep 2001, and I had been begging my mom for months to let me pierce my eyebrow. I was 14 at the time so she said "Not until you're 18." So one day when no one was home I got bored and I decided to pierce it myself. When my mom came home to find a band-aid over my right eyebrow, she didn't believe my accident (I said I ran into a wall), and when she demanded I take it off, I removed the band-aid to expose a sewing needle thru my eyebrow. She dropper her jaw and said a few seconds later, "Well...it doesn't look that bad actually." She let me wear it to school, but I didn't have an actual eyebrow jewelry piece, and I woke up a few days later to discover the ear stud jewelry gone and my eyebrow closed up. After hours of begging my mom to let me get it done professionally, she gave in but said "NOTHING else until your 18 and moved out...except for your tongue because they're really ugly and you're NEVER getting that pierced. NEVER."

My friend (who was 18) said a few days later that she'd take me to get it done. But days turned to weeks which turned to months, and eventually I forgot about her and decided I'd pay for it. So one nite me, my mom, her boyfriend, and my best friend Christine hopped in our car and drove to the piercing place. Christine was getting her belly done (after my mom convinced her mom to let her), and I was finally gonna get my eyebrow done. We got there just in time to see a guy get the finishing touches on his tattoo, which was an angel on his chest. We each brought $20 because the place charged $20 with your own jewelry or $30 with theirs. Well we find out that it was actually $25 with your own jewelry, and we had absolutely no extra money. But the lady was cool and said "Ah don't worry about it" and charged us $20 apiece.

I decided to be the first to get mine pierced because i had pierced my eyebrow 6x before then (the first time, and then 5 other times when I just pierced it and took the needle out right afterwards), and she had never done her belly. I figured since it wouldn't hurt me, I'd show her that it wasn't that bad. So she cleaned my eyebrow and made 2 dots where they were going to be pierced. I wanted her to move them in a little because they were at the tip of my brow, so she wiped it off and made 2 different dots. Then she pulled a 14g needle out of its package, put pliers on my eyebrow, and said "Take a deep breath..." and pushed it thru. It felt like someone pinched my brow...that's it. The she pulled the needle out, put a hoop in it, and used ring-closing pliers to push the hoop onto the bead.

Next Christine laid down and went through the same procedure, except when it was done she almost passed out because she hadn't eaten anything before it. The next day at school everyone tripped out when they saw it, because i'm a nice friendly "goody-goody" honors student, and i don't look like someone who would get a piercing. Nonetheless, everyone liked it and they thought it was really cool. Plus girls thought it was sexy ;).

This Jan 24 will be the one-year anniversary since I got it pierced. I only had to clean it twice a day for about 1.5 months, and it healed perfectly. About 4 months ago I went down to a 16g because I didn't want such a noticeable scar if I ever had to take it out, and it did fine thru that also. People still ask me "Did that hurt?" and "Can I touch it?" even tho it's been a year since I got it done. And my personal favorite is "Your mom let you do that when you were FOURTEEN!?" I love the attention ;).

Here's what I recommend to anyone considering getting their eyebrow pierced: start with 16g so that your scar isn't so big. And do what brow you want done--I got my right one done because I think it looks better, although a lot of people get their left one done. And plus, now a ton of people at school are getting their right eyebrows pierced ;). Also, you MUST wash it twice a day, every day, for at least 2 months. You don't want to risk getting it infected, because it happens easier than you think. Oh, and eat something before you go to get a piercing (4 hours latest). Otherwise you'll get nervous and the shock will make you weary and you might pass out like my friend did.

I am considering getting my labret pierced when I'm 18, and I want my tongue done but like I said, my mom absolutely hates tongue rings and said I could never get it pierced, even when I move out and have kids. But me and Christine already agreed that during Spring Break in our Senior year (2005), we're getting our tongues done.
